TEWKSBURY: Rose C. (Silva) Hanson, age 98, a Tewksbury resident for 59 years, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2009 at Saints Medical Center in Lowell.
She was the wife of John J. Hanson, who passed away on January 4, 1988.
Born in Boston on January 30, 1911, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Delphine (Williams) Silva.
Mrs. Hanson was raised in East Boston and attended East Boston schools.
In 1950, she and her late husband moved to Tewksbury and attended the former St. Mary's Church in South Tewksbury.
Mrs. Hanson devoted her life to her late husband and their three children.
Following the closing of St. Mary's Church, she became a communicant of Saint William's Parish in Tewksbury.
According to her family, "she was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and never missed watching a game".
In earlier years, she was a member of the Wilmington Candlepin Bowling League.
Mrs. Hanson is survived by her children, Phyllis D'Alelio and her husband Dale of Melrose, John J. "Bud" Hanson, Jr. of Billerica and Roseanne D. Nowak and her husband Richard of Salem, NH; nine grandchildren, Lorraine Labarba, Nancy Rossi , Julie Gilchrist , John J. "Sande" Hanson, III, Kelly McLaughlin, Timothy Hanson, Patrick Hanson and Nancy Hanson, Richard Nowak, Jr. and Jim Nowak; one sister, Evelyn Carthon of Jacksonville, NC; also many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hanson was pre-deceased by two brothers, two sisters , her daughter-in-law, Marion H. (Ryan) Hanson and her granddaughter, Janet D'Alelio
Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 25th, from 3-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Friday, June 26th, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery.
