North Port, FL.-Rev Roland A. Montplaisir, 94, died June 21, 2009 following a brief illness.
Father Montplaisir was born on May 21, 1915 in Manchester, New Hampshire the son of John B. and Josephine (Tardif)
Montplaisir. He was ordained a priest on May 18, 1940 by the Most Reverend John B. Peterson, D.D., fourth Bishop of Manchester, at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Manchester. Father Montplaisir studied at Saint Anselm College, Manchester and then completed his ecclesiastical studies at the Grand Seminary in Montreal, PQ, Canada.
Father Montplaisir was assigned as associate pastor of Saint George Parish in Manchester in May, 1940 and then as associate pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Greenville in March, 1942. In February, 1943, Father Montplaisir was assigned as associate pastor of Guardian Angel Parish in Berlin and then as a Navy Chaplain for a period of three years from 1943-46. In August, 1946 he was assigned as associate pastor of Saint Augustine Parish in Manchester; in June, 1949 to Saint Anne Parish, Berlin and in September, 1952 to Saint Bernard, Keene. In addition to his pastoral assignments, Father Montplaisir had also served as State Chaplain of the Catholic War Vets.
In October, 1957, Bishop Brady appointed Father Montplaisir as pastor of Saint Peter Parish in Auburn. In September, 1976, Bishop Gendron appointed Father Montplaisir pastor of Saint Leo Parish in Gonic where he served faithfully until his retirement in 1990.
Members of his family include several nephews, nieces, cousin ad a sister-in-law Grace Montplaisir.
SERVICES:Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St.. The Most Reverend John B. McCormack, Bishop of Manchester, will preside at a Mass of Christian Burial in Ste. Marie Church Saturday at 10 AM. The Rite of Committal will be celebrated at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
