Joanne (Hopkins) Roman, 66 years, of Brockton died suddenly on June 13, 2009 after a lengthy illness. She died at home as was her wish. Joanne, a lifelong resident of Brockton, was the daughter of the late Allen and Mary (Campbell) Hopkins. She was a graduate of Brockton High School and received her LPN degree from Southeastern Regional Technical. She had been employed as a nurse at the Easton Lincoln Nursing Home, New England Sinai Hospital, Lutheran/Guardian Center and several other Brockton area nursing homes. Due to her failing health, she reluctantly retired from nursing in 2004. She was most proud of her family and their accomplishments and enjoyed needlework, crocheting, visits from her grand-dog Sprout, and the occasional trip to Mohegan Sun Casino in her spare time. She was a very loving and caring woman who never failed to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
She is survived by her daughter Mary E. (Eldridge) Ellis and her husband Ben of Bridgewater, brother Allen J. Hopkins, Jr. of Rockland, grandson Kenneth Furlong of Brockton, nieces Kathleen Septelka and her husband Lucas of Mansfield and Kimberly DeMelo and her husband Al of Dartmouth, and “her sister” Renie Harlow and her family of East Bridgewater.
Joanne’s Funeral Mass will take place, Thursday, June 25th at 9 am, St Basil's Chapel, Bridgewater State College, 122 Park Avenue Bridgewater, MA.
