Obituary

HARWICH: John J. “Dinny” Creedon 86 of Indian Trail died Thursday June 18, 2009 at Epoch Senior Healthcare of Brewster, following an extended period of failing health. He was the husband of Isabel (Rohan) Banville-Creedon of Franklin and Harwich.

Born in Boston, January 1, 1923 a son of the late Dennis and Nora (Bagley) Creedon, he formerly lived in Charlestown, Brookline, and Dorchester until moving to Harwich 35 years ago.

He was raised and educated in Charlestown, and until his retirement in 1981 as a Lt. served for more than 34 years with the Boston Fire Dept. He retired from engine Co. #32, and also served on the arson squad.

During WW II he served in the US Army. He attained the rank of Tec/sgt. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the WW II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in March 1946 after more than 3 years of service.

He was a member of the Professional Firefighters Assoc. of Massachusetts Local 718 AFL-CIO, enjoyed reading, travel, and golf, and also worked as a starter at the Cranberry Valley Golf Course.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a sister Rita Sawicki of Conn. his brother and sister in law Thomas & Susan Rohan of Franklin, and several nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Catherine Lynch.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Wednesday June 24th @ 10:15 AM from the Coutinho-Boisse Funeral Home 678 Main St. Harwich Center, with a funeral Mass at 11AM in Holy Trinity Church. Interment with military and Boston Fire Dept. Honors will follow at 1:15PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-8PM.
