Florian E. Marquis, Jr. age 82, of 43 Olo St. died Friday at home after an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Claire D. (Garceau) Marquis. Mr. Marquis was born in Woonsocket on July 6, 1926, a son of the late Florian E. Marquis Sr. and Rose (Jolly) Marquis. He was the owner and operator of Marquis Service Station, 319 Olo St. for over fifty years. Mr. Marquis was a WWII Navy Veteran. He was a member of the VFW, Christian Men's Club, and St. Joseph Veteran's Club.
Mr. Marquis was the beloved father to seven children. He is survived by two sons, Ronald G. Marquis of Manville, and David F. Marquis of Woonsocket, five daughters, Denise A. Marquis, Suzanne D. Phaneuf, and Christine R. Staples all of Woonsocket, Diane D. Hodrick of Jamestown, and Lisa C. Marquis of Bellingham. He is also survived by three brothers, Roger Marquis of Glen Burnie, MD, Roland Marquis of N. Smithfield, and Robert Marquis of Acton, ME, and a sister Jacqueline Guilbault of Rockledge, FL. He was the loving “Pepere” to ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge with gratitude those family and friends who assisted with his care while he battled his illness, especially his brothers Roland and Bob, and his devoted friend, Tho Nguyen.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 415 Olo St., Woonsocket. Burial with Military honors will be held in Resurrection Cemetery in Cumberland following the church service. Visiting hours are Tuesday 4:00 -7:00 PM.
