Worcester—Norman L. Carlson, 82, died June 18, 2009, peacefully at home after a brief illness. He was born in Worcester, April 5, 1927, the son of Arthur L. and Ruth (Woods) Carlson. He was predeceased by his daughter, Ruth, who passed in 2002. He leaves the love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Grace E. (Svedin). He also leaves three sons, David and his wife Arlene, Michael, and John and his wife Janet; and a daughter, Sharon—all of Worcester. He also leaves 9 grandchildren, Heather, Joshua, Eric, Christopher, Colin, Joseph, Marc, Derek, and Alek; and a great-grandson, Tyler. Norman attended Worcester Boys Trade School. He was a WWII veteran, attaining the rank of Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne. He proudly served in Africa and Europe, participating in the Invasion of Normandy. He was a Worcester firefighter for 30years, retiring in 1993. Norman worked on Squad 1, Engine 13, and was a Chief’s Aide in Car 4 and Car 2.
