John E. Latham, age 97, of Cove Road died Friday at Mary Elizabeth Nursing Center in Mystic.
He was born on April 19, 1912, in Stonington, the son of the late Ira C. and Nonie Crean Latham.
He is survived by his son John T. Latham and his wife Anne; granddaughters Jennifer Manfredi and Sara Roberts; and grandson Daniel Latham; plus four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Barry Latham; his wife Ruth Lamphere Latham and his sisters Alice Burdick, Irene Holly, May Lynch, and Kathryn D'Amico.
John lived on Quiambaug Cove almost his entire life. A 1930 graduate of Stonington High School. He was employed during his early years at the A&P in Mystic and Electric Boat in Groton; was co-owner of Montauk Market in New London for several years; drove truck from Maloof Ice Cream Company in New London and until his retirement in 1977, he worked at Pfizers in the Security Department. For many years John lobstered in the summer and wintered on Pine Island in Bokeelia FL.
John's family will greet relatives and friends at the Dinoto Funeral Home 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic, from 11am to 12:45pm on June 23rd followed by a 1 pm Graveside Service at Elm Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Recreation Fund at Mary Elizabeth Nursing Center, 28 Broadway, Mystic CT 06355. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Mary Elizabeth for their excellent care.
