Alice (Vartanian) Surabian, 84, of Craigville Beach Road, formerly of Princeton, a survivor of the Armenian Genocide, died Friday, July 18, at home.
She leaves her husband of 57 years, Martin M. Surabian; three sons, Martin Surabian of North Potomac, Md., Richard and Steven Surabian, both of West Hyannis Port; a brother, Richard Vartanian of Naples, Fla; three sisters, Rose Sharougian of Hartford, Conn., Margaret Karakelian of Bellingham and Isabel Kashmanian of North Providence; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; many nephews and nieces. She was born in Armenia, daughter of Dickran and Helen (Biniatian) Vartanian. She attended Hudson schools. She had lived in Princeton for 23 years.
Mrs. Surabian was a survivor of the 1915-1923 Armenian Genocide, and arrived at Ellis Island in 1920. She was a member of The Armenian Church of Our Saviour.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 22, from Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester, with a service at 11 a.m. in Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 21, in the funeral home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609.
