Dora Frances Joiner Lanier, 90, of Jacksonville, Florida died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2009, in the Chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard South, Jacksonville, Florida with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home on Sunday, June 21, 2009, from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Larry Layfield will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Lanier was born on December 3, 1918 in Tifton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny Lewis Lanier, who died in 1999; one son, James Charles Lanier; and one brother, Cecil Joiner. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
Mrs. Lanier is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Lanier Goodwin of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; one brother, Henry T. Joiner of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Lori Lanier Ewing and James Charles Lanier, II; and three great grandchildren.
