Obituary

SOUTH BERWICK, ME.-Martin G. Melia, 57, of South Berwick, Maine passed away peacefully at his home on June 16, 2009 following a brief illness. He was the beloved son of Jane E. (Gallagher) Melia and the late Martin F. Melia.

Marty was born in Methuen, MA on June 9, 1952 and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Lawrence. He received his B.S. from Boston State College where he majored in Political Science.

Mr. Melia will long be remembered for his many years of dedicated service to local youth as a coach for the Lawrence Little League. His entrepreneurial endeavors included his co-ownership of the Sycamore Club in Lawrence and Uncle Buck's Coffee House in Portsmouth, N.H. Most recently he was employed as manager of the Cumberland Farms of South Berwick, ME.

An avid Red Sox fan, Marty was best known for his Irish wit and gift of gab. He entertained young and old alike at holiday gatherings of family and friends. Marty will be especially missed by the children who were always delighted by his playful antics and corny jokes.

In addition to his mother, Martin is survived by his brothers: Michael and his wife Linda of Pelham, N.H.; Edward, Stephen, and John and his wife Kathleen of Methuen, MA; and Daniel of Fayette, ME; his sisters: Mary Jane and her husband Paul DeCorpo of Dracut, MA; Patricia Melia-Wholey of Methuen, MA; Ann and her husband Randy McClellan of Derry, N.H.; and Kathleen and her husband Philip Gardella of Newburyport, MA; twenty two nieces and nephews; eight grand nieces and nephews; several aunts and cousins; and his second family: John and Colette Amato and their beloved daughters: Allison and Jessica of York Harbor, ME.

A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Monica Church in Methuen at 9:00AM on Saturday June 20, 2009. Burial will be private.
