SALEM - Stanley A. Rybicki, 79, of Salem, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, June 14, 2009.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Anthony and Victoria (Pokorski) Rybicki. He attended St. John The Baptist Grammar School and was a graduate of Salem High School.
Mr Rybicki served in the US Navy from the late 1940's to the early 1950's
His first employment was while he was a student as Salem High School. He worked in the shipping receiving department at the Daniel Low Company in Salem. After his military service he worked for a short time at the Creese & Cook Leather Company in Danvers. Then, in the mid 1950's went to work for the US. Postal Service in Salem. He started out as a letter carrier and later worked in the post office at the customer service area until his retirement in the mid 1980's.
He was a lifelong parishioner of the St. John The Baptist Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, lector and alter server, as well as helping out in other areas within the parish. He enjoyed reading and playing golf and was an avid Boston sports fan whether it was watching the games on television or attending games in Boston. He was a member of the House of Seven Gables Settlement Association and the Salem Chapter of the AARP.
Mr. Rybicki is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Gerald Herlihy of Beverly, one niece, Eileen MacVittie, one grand nephew and his wife, Heath and Traci MacVittie all of Prince Edward Island, Canada, and two cousins, Regina Chemelski of Salem and Genevieve Klosowski of Limerick, Maine.
His funeral service will be held Friday, June 19, 2009 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mas at 10 am at the St. John The Baptist Church, Salem. Visiting hours are Thursday, 4 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Burial is in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
