Wilfred P. Bernier, Sr., 97, a lifelong resident of Derry, NH died Monday June 15, 2009 at his daughter's home in Sanbornton, NH. Mr. Bernier was born in Derry on December 31, 1911, son of the late Paul and Marie (Caron) Bernier. He was the owner and operator of Bernier's TV in Derry for 32 years. He was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3023, both of Derry. Mr. Bernier was the recipient of the Boston Post Cane in 2003. He enjoyed golfing, playing until the age of 95, was an avid cribbage player and in his younger years bowled and played basketball. Mr. Bernier was particularly proud of his ability to speak French fluently.
He is survived by his daughter, Elise M. Driscoll and her husband Bill of Sanbornton, two sons, Wilfred P. Bernier, Jr. and his wife Billie Jean of Londonderry, NH, Joseph A. Bernier of Weatogue, CT, 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, two sisters, Theresa Beliveau of Derry, Loretta Couture of Lowell, MA, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Louise (Gagnon) Bernier in 1990.
Calling hours were held on Thursday June 18, 2009 from 6 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. Burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, Londonderry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
