Anne E. (Watson) Martin, 92, of New Bedford, formerly of Fairhaven died Sunday June 14, 2009 at at Alden Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Wilson Casey Martin.
Born in Paterson, NJ, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna (Fenlon) Watson. Her father was well-known in vaudeville as "Sliding Billy Watson" and owned burlesque theaters in New York City. Her mother was a Ziegfeld Follies girl in vaudeville.
Mrs. Martin was formerly employed by Cherry & Webb in the jewelry department.
She attended New York University.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Jane Clark and her husband Robert of New Bedford, and Audrey R. Gilmore of Neptune, NJ; a sister, Isabel Aun of Wallpack Center, NJ; eight grandchildren, James W. Clark and his wife Linda, Atty. Thomas R. Clark and his wife Wendy, Peter W. Clark and his wife Jennifer, and J. Casey Martin, all of New Bedford, Timothy Martin of Louisiana, Kevin Martin of New York, Thomas M. Gilmore and his wife Carol, and James Gilmore, all of Neptune, NJ; six great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Kelsey, Patrick, Mia, Cody, and Ethan Clark; and many nieces and nephews in New Jersey, New York, and California.
She was the mother of the late J. Warren Martin, grandmother of the late Joanne Gilmore, and sister of the late Bertha Weiner.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
