Obituary

East Bridgewater - Barbara Wilcox (Smith) Rubin daughter of the late A. Clinton and Florence (Wilcox) Smith died peacefully on June 16, 2009, in the home where she was born on January 9, 1923. Barbara was 86 years old.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, the late Manuel J. Rubin in April 1994. She is survived by her daughter, Parnel S. Bailey and her husband Chandos L. Bailey III of East Bridgewater.

Barbara enjoyed classical music, making many trips to Tanglewood to watch and listen to the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Barbara was an avid Red Sox Fan.

She was a life long member of the East Bridgewater Methodist Church. Barbara was a Past President of the East Bridgewater Woman’s Club, a former member of the East Bridgewater Historical Commission and was involved with The Cultural Center for the Blind.

Basically, a quiet person, Barbara enjoyed attending church, reading, and listening to music and baseball games on the front piazza with her husband Manuel. Barbara supported charities such as, The Heifer Project, Habitat for Humanity, The SW Indian Foundation as well as many others.

Donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Old Colony Hospice, One Credit Union Way Randolph, MA 02368 or to the East Bridgewater Food Pantry, 105 Pleasant St. East Bridgewater, MA 02333-1319.

In accordance with Barbara’s wishes, there will be no wake or viewing. A private burial will be held in the East Bridgewater Central Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held Sunday June 21 at 2 PM in the East Bridgewater United Methodist Church.
