LOWELL - Louis (Elias) T. Stroumbos, age 81, a lifelong resident of Lowell died on June 14, 2009.
He was the husband of the late Mary E. (Miskell) Stroumbos.
Mr. Stroumbos was born in Lowell on February 6, 1928, the son of the late Theodore and the late Pota (Apostolakos) Stroumbos. He was educated in the Lowell Public Schools, graduated from Lowell High School, and Matriculated to Purdue University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1953. He also earned his Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling at Boston University in 1962.
Mr. Stroumbos had been associated with the Lowell School System for 25 years, serving as the Guidance Counselor at the Moody Junior High School until his retirement in 1986. Prior to working for the Lowell School System, he was associated with Westford Academy where he taught math, science, served as Guidance Counselor, and coached the varsity baseball team.
Mr. Stroumbos was an Army Veteran, having served in Japan from 1946 to 1947. He was a member of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell. He also held memberships in the Lowell Administrators Organization, M.T.A., N.E.A., The New England Personnel and Guidance Association, the D.A.V., and the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lou Stroumbos and her husband Steven K. Adamowski and two grandchildren, Shauna and Evan Adamowski. Mr. Stroumbos is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Rita Stroumbos of Chicopee and Patricia Strombos of Lowell and was very close with his niece, Paula (Spanos) Cregg and nephews, George and Theodore Spanos. He is also survived by several other nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Alexander Stroumbos, James T. Stroumbos, George T. Stroumbos, John T. Strombos, Aspasia Spanos and Mary Moore.
Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Wednesday from 4 until 8 PM. His Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Thursday at 9 AM, followed by his Funeral Service at 10 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Lewis St., in Lowell.
