THOMPSON - Bernard W. Lenky, 82, of Watson Road in the Quinebaug section of Thompson, died Saturday, June 13, in Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam, after being stricken ill at home.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Charlotte A. (Stalec) Lenky; 2 sons, John B. Lenky and his wife Dianne of North Grosvenordale, and Paul Lenky of Webster, MA; 3 grandchildren, Crystal of Christchurch, New Zealand, and Nathaniel and Theodore of North Grosvenordale; a brother, Stanley Lenky of Webster; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Edward, Theodore, Joseph and Walter Lenky and by his sisters Mary Bialy and Anna Hetherman.
He was born in Thompson, a son of Albert and Bridget (Kaput) Lenky and was a lifelong resident.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a seaman second class of the USS Greene.
Mr. Lenky first worked as a truck driver for the Kenyon Oil Company for many years. He then worked for the Connecticut Department of Transportation for 21 years as a truck driver and in maintenance before he retired in 1986.
He was a member of Saint Stephen’s Church. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Thompson and the American Legion Post #67 in North Grosvenordale. He was a member of the CSEA of Connecticut, a member and past president of the Eastern Connecticut Police Association and a former member of the Quinebaug Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed gardening.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, June 17, at 10:00 AM in Saint Stephen’s Church, corner of Routes 131 & 197 (please meet at the church). Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster.The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will perform the military honors at the cemetery. There are no calling hours.
