Obituary

BOSTON … Stephen M. Devaney, 52, of Fall River died May 29, 2009 unexpectedly.
He died at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
He was born in Eunice, LA a son of Vernitta (Ardoin) Martin of Turkey Creek, LA and the late Robert Devaney and had lived in Fall River for the last year, prior to that he had lived in New Bedford.
He was employed as a scalloper on the F/V The Friendship, where he met his lifelong friend Joe Demelo with whom he shared a love of vintage Mopar cars. Stephen spent the last years of his life scalloping on the F/V The Seafox, with his best friend and captain, Peter Barbero. Stephen also had a love for music, and he leaves with a great love for his idol, Keith Richards.
Survivors include his mother, a son Matthew Devaney of CT., a brother Robert A. Devaney of New Bedford, 3 sisters: Christie A. Sherman of Fall River, Gladys L. Simmons of Pine Prairie, LA, and Kelly S. Devaney of New Bedford, several nieces and nephews. He also leaves a young man that he loved as his own son. Michael Westgate.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Stone for his care and kindness that he showed to Stephen.
Memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Wednesday June 10, 2009 at 6PM at the Seaman’s Bethel, 15 Johnny Cake Hill., New Bedford, MA.
