Obituary

METHUEN – Carmine P. Grelle 92 lifelong resident of Lawrence and Methuen, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on Thursday June 11, 2009 at the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre.

Born and educated in Lawrence son of Pasquale and Orsola (Brosco) Grelle, he was a gradute of Lawrence High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy, enlisting in Haverhill December 1937. He was assigned to the battleships, New York, the U.S.S. Reina Mercedes and also the Navy Ocean Racing Yacht Vamarie. The Vamarie had an enviable racing reputation, 1934, 35, and 36 finished first in the Miami – Nassau and St. Petersburg – Havana races, won Newport to Norway race and defended the Brenton Reef Cup in 1934. On December 13th 1941 he was honorably discharged from service with the rank of Electricians Mate 3rd Class.

For many years he was a Master Electrician with Bolta Products a division of General Tire, Urban Electric, Manzi Electric and was a member of the I.B.E.W. # 103. An attendant of St. Lucy’s Church in Methuen, he was also and avid fan and season ticket holder for many years of Boston College Football and a huge Boston Red Sox fan.

The widower of Rosalie (Cafiso) Grelle, he is survived by his children, Ursula M. “Cookie” Maggio of Methuen, Frank C. Grelle and his wife Elaine also of Methuen and Paul J. Grelle and his wife Milou of Bradford, MA.
Grandchildren Michael and April Maggio, Amy Evans, Daniel Grelle, Tiffany Maliar and Rhea Soares.
Several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Monday from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:00a.m. at St. Lucy’s Church Methuen, MA with burial to follow in the Elmwood Cemetery also in Methuen.
