Dorothy Lawson Bailey, 97, of Mystic passed away Wednesday at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Loring M. Bailey.
Dorothy was born in Bradford, Massachusetts on October 19, 1911, the daughter of Samuel Albert and Leola (Main) Lawson. She graduated from Willimantic Teachers College and received her Masters of Education degree from the University of Connecticut. She was a language arts teacher from 1961 to 1970 at Pine Point School in Stonington and from 1970 to 1979 at West Side Middle School, retiring in 1979.
Dorothy was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church serving on the Altar Guild and Vestry and as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Groton and National Education Associations, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Smithsonian Society and a former member of the Mystic Womens Club. She was also a member of the Indian and Colonial Research Museum, the Mystic River Historical Society and the Stonington Historical Society.
She is predeceased by her son, Loring M. Bailey Jr. and by her sister Mildred L. Barnard.
Her family will gather for a private service.
