Obituary

Gerard George Charest, Jr., 58, of Rochester died Friday July 18, 2003 at home after a 5 1/2 year battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of Lorraine M. (Beaulieu) Charest; they had been married for 36 years.

Born in Acushnet, the son of Gerard G. and Therese (Gaudette) Charest of Rochester, he lived in Rochester since 1968. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church.

He attended St. Francis Xavier School in Acushnet and Assumption Preparatory High School in Worcester. He received a degree in civil engineering from Worcester Polytechnical Institute. While at W.P.I, he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta and served as editor and publisher of the school newspaper.

Mr. Charest began his career as an engineer with the Trane Company of Brighton. In 1973 he joined Tibbetts Engineering Company where he served as project developer and vice president.

Active in community affairs, he was a member of the Industrial Development Finance Commission, the Rochester Memorial School Building Committee, and the Building Committee and School Committee of the Old Colony Regional Vocational-Technical High School. He was active for many years with scouting and the Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife; his parents; 2 sons, Gerard G. Charest III of Rochester and Michael J. Charest and his wife Lisa of Mamaroneck, New York; a daughter, Danielle E. Charles and her husband Jean of Taunton; a sister, Claudette Olivier of Acushnet; and 2 grandchildren, Lordan M. Charest and Kaiya Y. Charles.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass in St. Rose of Lima Church, Rochester, Monday evening July 21, 2003 at 7 PM. His family will receive visitors at the church on Monday from 5-6:30 PM prior to the Mass. Burial in Center Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Bishop Stang High School Chapel Fund, 500 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth, MA 02747.
