Alfred “Al” DiBella

TEWKSBURY - A. Alfred DiBella, age 77, a former Supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service, diedSaturday morning, July 19, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill, after an extendedperiod of declining health. He was the husband of Mary P. (Bramante) DiBella, with whom hewould have celebrated a 56th wedding anniversary on September 1st.
He was born in Palermo, Italy, June 27, 1926, a son of the late Guy and Maria (Zizzo) DiBella. He emigrated to the U.S. at the age of 11, and settled into the Medford area. He had lived inTewksbury since 1961.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army, European theater.
He began a long and distinguished career with the Postal Service as a mail sorter in the railroadtrain cars. He held many positions during his 32 year career, and retired as a Supervisor/Managerof Logistics at the Middlesex-Essex General Mail Facility in Woburn. He was also the founder and currently serving as president of the Middlesex-Essex Postal Employee's Credit Union. In his earlier years, he alsoworked part time in sales at Brewsters Lumber Company in Wilmington.
He was a communicant of St. William’s Church, and a long time member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge 2070.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Alfred and Margaret “Peggy”(Tompkins) DiBella of West Windsor, VT; four daughters and sons-in-law, MaryAnn andStephen DeLanoy of Billerica, Laura and Stephen Ambrefe of Groveland, Donna and David Gillof Methuen, Lisa and Patrick Doherty of Dracut; a twin sister, Rose Santoro of Lighthouse Point,Fla.; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Anthony and Dina DiBella of Somerville, Catherine DiBellaof Everett; ten grandchildren, Stephen and Heather DeLanoy, Sarah and Katherine DiBella,Ashley and James Ambrefe, Kayla Rogers, David Gill, Patrick and Emma Doherty.He was also father of the late James DiBella, who died in 1981 and brother of the late SalvatoreDiBella.
His Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, July 22, in St. William’s Church. Interment was in Lowell Cemetery.
