GLOUCESTER: Carleen (Gabry) Muniz, 62, died early Wednesday morning, June 10, 2009 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital.
Born in Gloucester on May 25, 1947, she was the daughter of Mary (Muniz) Gabry and the late Horace C. “Hod” Gabry. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School, class of 1965
Carleen was a recognized artist featured in the American Artist Magazine in the February 2001 issue. She was a member of the Rockport Art Association, the North Shore Arts Association of Gloucester, and the Academic Artists. Her awards include the Gordon Grant Memorial Award and the North Shore Arts Association Award, both from the North Shore Arts Association; the Chrislee Darrand Award and the Martha More Memorial Award, both from the Rockport Art Association. Her work ranges from sports activities to landscapes to figures. She was also employed at the Cape Ann YMCA for many years working the front desk. Carleen had a passion for soccer as she enjoyed playing, watching, and coaching the sport. She also enjoyed traveling, rollerblading, and skiing.
Along with her mother, she is survived by three sons and a daughter–in-law, James P. Muniz of Gloucester, Eric M. Muniz, of Salem and Mac A. Muniz and his wife, Melanie of Bennington, Vermont, a sister, Tracie Lee of Gloucester, a brother, Ted and his wife Carly Gabry of Gloucester, a niece, Cara Hobbs of Rockport, cousins Julie Garcia of Gloucester and Inez Gove of North Andover. She also leaves behind her faithful dog, Nebraska.
Her funeral services will be held in the West Gloucester Trinitarian Congregational Church on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at the Beechbrook cemetery following the service. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.
