Francis P. Gunning, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Wednesday June 3, 2009 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a brief illness. He was 77 years old.
Franny was born in Boston on September 1, 1931. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Boston Trade Technical High School. Franny enlisted into the United States Army in 1952 and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He worked for many years as a printer for a local printing company.
Franny is the beloved son of the late John and Mary (Harte) Gunning. He is the beloved twin brother of Frederick J. Gunning of Charlestown and devoted brother of Mary Walsh of Charlestown, John J. Gunning of Peabody, Margaret A. Murphy of Medford and the late James M. and Thomas P. Gunning. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Franny's Funeral will be held on Monday June 8, 2009 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Sunday June 7, 2009 from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial will be at the Veteran's Administration National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 p.m.
