Essie Wood Hammond, 92, of Lakeland, Florida died Friday, June 5, 2009, in Lakeland. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 20009, at the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty. Rev. Eddie Hutcheson will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Ms. Hammond was born on January 5, 1917 in Turner County and was the daughter of Everett N. Wood and Mary Hogan Wood, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ansley Sheldon "Shep" Hammond, who died in 1991; one grandson, Raymond Dean Coonrod; and one great grandson, Scoot Coonrod Stevenson. She was a retired sawmill worker.
Ms. Hammond is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary and Dean Coonrod of Rockford, Michigan, Rose Luster of Rockford, Michigan and Betty and Kenneth Lowery of Zephyrhills, Florida; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Everett, Jr. and Dean Wood of Ty Ty, Lee and Irene Wood of Norman Park and Sam and Mildred Wood of Norman Park; one sister, Minnie Bullington of Ty Ty; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
