Worcester – Lt. (Ret.) Paul R. Dillaire, 88, of South Dennis died on Monday, June 1st in Umass Memorial Medical Center – Memorial Campus after a long life.
Mr. Dillaire’s wife of 54 years Phyllis M. (Webster) Dillaire died in 2005. He is survived by two sons Allen W. Dillaire and his wife Kathleen M. of Worcester and Bruce W. Dillaire and his wife Kirsten P. of Worcester; a sister Dora Langlois of Bradenton, FL; 4 grandchildren Jessica A., Alyssa S., Alexander P. and Michael S. all of Worcester and many nephews and nieces.
Paul was born in Worcester son of the late Alfred and Ida (Racine) Dillaire and is predeceased by two brothers Alfred and Victor Dillaire and a sister Emma Belanger. After attending high school and working in the family business he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during World War II.
Mr. Dilliare retired in 1982 from the Worcester Fire Department as a Lieutenant after 34 years of service. While on the fire department he served at the former Portland St. Fire Station, South Division, Grove Street Headquarters, Cambridge Street Station and finished his career at the Webster Square Station.
He enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife Phyllis for many years. Upon retiring to the Cape in 1985, Paul enjoyed going to the West Dennis beach on a regular basis where he was a mainstay at his usual place, Lifeguard Station #6. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots.
The funeral will be held on Friday, June 12th at 11 AM in the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 11th from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
