Obituary

Nicholas M. Dangelo 87, of Bourne, and a former longtime resident of Franklin, died Tuesday June 2, 2009 at the Cape Cod Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bourne, following a long illness. He was the husband of the late Irene A. (Riley) Dangelo who died in 1978.
Born in Franklin, December 7, 1921 a son of the late Carmine and Maria (Mammone) Dangelo, he had lived in Franklin for most of his life, until moving to Bourne in 1996.
He was raised and educated in Franklin schools, and was a graduate of Franklin High School class of 1940. He also attended Wentworth Institute in Boston. Until his retirement many years ago, he was the co-owner of the former Franklin Machine Company, where he worked as a machinist.
Mr. Dangelo proudly served in the United States Navy during World War ll and was honorably discharged in November 1945.
He interests included fishing, hiking, canoeing and bicycling, and truly enjoyed being outdoors. He also liked flying, and helped build a replica of a WWll era bi-plane which he co-piloted to Florida. He will be remembered as a simple man, who enjoyed spending time with his family and making his own wine.
He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his children, David N. Dangelo and his wife Suzanna and Robert A. Dangelo and his wife Mary all of Franklin and Cheryl J. Gardner of Chatham and a sister Violet R. Chestercove of Norton. Also surviving are his many nieces and nephews to whom he was “Uncle Nickie.”
He was the brother of the late Michael J., Charles W. Dangelo and Carmela LeVitre.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors on Saturday June 6th, at 12:45PM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. (www.franklinfuneral.com) with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. at 1:30PM.
Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Calling hrs are Friday June 5th, from 6-8PM.
