Richard A. Martin, 73, of Mattapoisett died Wednesday June 3, 2009 suddenly at home. He was the husband of Constance Keavy Martin.
Born in New Bedford on September 18, 1935, he was the son of the late Thomas H. and Angela T. (Sullivan) Martin.
He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Boston University College of Industrial Technology.
Mr. Martin had been employed by Pratt and Whitney in Middletown, CT where he worked on the prototype of the first aircraft nuclear engine, and the Sippican Corporation in Marion as a quality control-mechanical inspection manager. He later worked for the Hasbro Toy Corporation as a mechanical designer of toy prototypes. He traveled the world extensively demonstrating these prototypes and supervised television commercials of these prototypes. He retired from Hasbro in 1990.
He was a member of the Reservation Golf Club. He enjoyed playing the stock market and was always willing to give financial advice. A quiet man, he was an avid reader of history, politics, and finance.
He is survived by his wife; two children, Anne Marie Viscuso and her husband Vincent of Pittsfield and Sagamore Beach, and Michael R. Martin and his wife Tracy of Sandwich; two stepchildren, Christopher W. Keavy and his wife Debra of Yarmouthport, and Shawna K. Keavy of Fairhaven; his sister, Ann Mitchell and her husband Robert of Fairhaven; three grandchildren, Jacqueline, Timothy, and Victoria Martin of Sandwich; two stepgrandchildren, Shannon E. and William J. Keavy of Yarmouthport; his former wife, Joanne George of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He will be sorely missed by his family, his Reservation friends, and his kitty, Susy. He loved and was loved!
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett.
