Whitman – Albert E. “Al” Lawrence, Sr. 78 died on Tuesday June 2, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband for 56 years of Gloria (Sevigny) Lawrence.
Born and raised in Claremont, NH he was the son of the late Leo and Harriet (Cassavaugh) Lawrence and a graduate of Steven’s High School in Claremont. As a young man he enjoyed baseball and figure skating.
Al was a Veteran of the US Air Force having served from 1950 to 1954.
Before his retirement he worked as a Superintendent in ship building for General Dynamics AMSEA of Quincy.
He enjoyed time spent out doors maintaining his beautiful home and yard; however his greatest joy came from time spent with his wife and family. He was an avid Red Sox fan.
Al will always be remembered as a kind, thoughtful and generous man who was always there, for both his immediate and extended family in their time of need.
In addition to his wife Gloria he is survived by his children Albert E. Lawrence, Jr. and his wife Laurie of S. Easton, David Lawrence and his wife Pamela of E. Bridgewater, Lori Lindo of W. Wareham and Robin Rousseau of Plympton, his brother Leo Lawrence, Jr. and his sister Carolyn Maranville both of Claremont, NH. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 3 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
His services will be held Monday June 8 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a mass at 9 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Sunday June 7 from 2-6 PM.
