Ruth T. Morrissey
Longtime Belmont Resident
TEWKSBURY: Ruth T. (Crehan) Morrissey, age 90, a Belmont resident, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at D'Youville Senior Care Center in Lowell.
She was the wife of John M. Morrissey, Sr., who passed away in 1988.
Born in Boston on October 7, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Michael M. and Margaret (Hannon) Crehan.
Mrs. Morrissey was raised in Charlestown, attended Charlestown schools and graduated from Charlestown High School.
Ruth resided in Belmont for over 30 years, where she was a communicant and member of the Ladies Sodality of Our Lady of Mercy Parish. In addition, she was a former volunteer for the "Meals on Wheels" Program in Belmont.
Mrs. Morrissey enjoyed music, walking, exercising and knitting Irish sweaters for family members.
She is survived by one son, John M. Morrissey, Jr. and his wife Pamela of Tewksbury; three daughters, Janet McAveeney and her husband Frank of Tewksbury, Carlene Lee and her husband James of Medfield and Marie Sims and her husband Andrew of Chelmsford; ten grandchildren, Michael, Steven and Lauren McAveeney, Patrick and Erin Morrissey, Kendra and Bryan Lee, David, Christopher and Kenneth Sims; one great grandson, Thomas McAveeney; also many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Morrissey was pre-deceased by three brothers and six sisters.
Calling hours Wednesday, June 3rd, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Thursday, June 4th, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 are suggested.
