Beverly: Louise E. (Dumas) Reilly, wife of Edward S. Reilly of Beverly, passed away Monday, June 1, 2009 at the Beverly Hospital.
She was born in Salem, the daughter of the late Hilarion and Jennie M. (Chartier) Dumas on November 20, 1917. She was brought up in Salem, and attended Salem High School class of 1936. Having always wanted to be a nurse, she attended the Goddard Hospital School of Nursing in Brockton. She graduated as an R.N. in 1939. Continuing to work at the Goddard Hospital, she held many different positions and finally ended up as operating room supervisor during World War II.
Louise married her husband Edward, a U.S. Marine in 1942 and they have shared 67 years of marriage. After the war she and her husband lived in Quantico, VA where their 3 sons were born. Their next post was Parris Island, SC, where their fourth son was born. Following her husband’s retirement from the Marine Corps in 1957 the couple moved to Beverly, where she did private duty nursing until she retired in 1962.
Louise will be remembered for her love of family, her kindness, generosity, wise counseling and graciousness. She will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 3 sons, James E. Reilly and his wife Cheryl of Eden Prairie, MN, John M. Reilly and his wife Lesley of Woods Hole, David M. Reilly and his wife Marsha of Colchester, CT. She also leaves a sister, Helen Hawryluk of Salem, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her son Philip passed away in May of 2003 and she was predeceased by brothers, Albert, Edward, Albany, Leo & Robert, and sisters, Hazel and Evelyn.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 10 am to be followed by her funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, Jefferson Ave., Salem at 11 am. Visiting hours: Wednesday 4 to 7 pm. Private burial will be in the National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Philip J.
