GLOUCESTER: Capt. Nicholas A. Parisi, 66, of 6 Macomber Road died Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center following an accident at his home. He was the husband of Judith (Palazola) Parisi.
Born in Gloucester on October 4, 1942, he was the son of Grace Parisi of Gloucester and the late Thomas Parisi. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester; attended St. Ann’s School and was a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1961.
He was U.S. Army veteran, he was stationed in Korea and was honorably discharged in September of 1964.
A commercial fisherman for over thirty years, he fished aboard the f/v Salvatore, Hazel B. and Thomas D., and ultimately became the owner and captain of the St. Nicholas. For twenty years he owned the Savory Skillet, having retired in 2007.
A self-taught artist, he was a member of the Rockport Art Association, the North Shore Arts Association and also had showings at the Sawyer Free Library and Addison Gilbert Hospital.
He was an active member of the Cape Ann Youth Hockey Association, the Gloucester High School Hockey Boosters and also coached the Gloucester High School Hockey Spring League.
He was also a member of the Seafarers Union and a former member of the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3, American Legion, the St. Peter’s Club and Gloucester Lodge of Elks #896.
In addition to his wife of forty-three years and his mother, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Grace and Sean Frost and Jennifer Parisi, his son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Thomas and Seema Parisi of Las Vegas, NV, four grandchildren, Nathan Potter, Layce Frost, Nathan and Nichole Frost, three sisters, Cathy, wife of the late Paul “Logie” Genovese, Geraldine, wife of James Fitzgerald, Carol, wife of John Cooney, his mother-in-law, Jennie Palazola, a brother-in-law, Anthony, husband of Sandra Palazola and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a sister, Mary Harting, a brother, Dominic Parisi and his father-in-law, Frank S. “Chick” Palazola.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Capt. Nicholas A. Parisi Scholarship Fund to benefit Gloucester High School graduates pursuing an education in art. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery.
