Obituary

Margaret M. "Peggy" (RILEY) Pulliam, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 78 years old.

Peggy was born in Boston. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1948. Peggy worked in the Mailing Reqirements Department for the U.S. Postal Service at South Postal Annex in South Boston and retired in 1999 after more than 30 years of service.

Peggy is the beloved wife of 58 years to Emmett R. Pulliam. She is the devoted mother of Nora DeMille of Charlestown, Bruce Pulliam of Halifax, Elizabeth Pulliam of Florida, Peggy Clarke of Florida, David Pulliam of Billerica, Claire Pulliam of Everett, John Pulliam of Hingham and the late Emmett R. Pulliam Jr. She is the loving grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of George Riley of Everett and the late Sgt. Joseph "Zeke" Riley U.S. Army (M.I.A. Korean Conflict) and Andrew "Buddy" Riley.

Peggy's Funeral will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2009, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren Street, Charlestown, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
