Obituary

Margery T. "Peggy" Dyer, 88, of Marion, Massachusetts and Siesta Key, Florida died Sunday July 13, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford after a long illness.

Peggy was born and raised in Cranford, New Jersey. She graduated from Sweet Briar College in Virginia circa 1936. She married Thomas Truxton in 1937 and they had two children, Mary and Julie. Lt. Colonel Truxton was killed in action during World War II in 1945. After a prolonged battle with polio, Peggy married Holmes M. Dyer and they resided in New Jersey for several years. Their marriage produced three more children, Tim, Nancy, and C.C. In 1955, the family moved to Marion, where Peggy was always actively involved in her community and with her family and friends - including the Sippican Tennis Club, the Beverly Yacht Club, the Marion Garden Club, the Marion Mallet Club, Board Member at St. Luke's Hospital and the Marion Art Center.

She was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Church in Marion and St. Boniface Church in Sarasota

Peggy was an accomplished equestrian who enjoyed tennis, sailing, contract bridge, gardening, badminton, croquet, acting and people.

Peggy and Holmes celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on July 31, 1996.

Peggy is survived by her five children, Mary T. Lalli of Mattapoisett, Julia T. Neal, Timothy H. Dyer, and Nancy Dyer Mitton, all of Marion, and C.C. Dyer of New York City and Marion; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a myriad of friends and other relatives.

Her Memorial Service will be held on Friday July 18, 2003 at 11:00 AM in St. Gabriel's Church, 124 Front Street, Marion.
