Obituary

Mark J. Lemieux, 88, of Dartmouth died May 27, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Nora Agnes (Meehan) Lemieux.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joseph F. and Blanche A. (Turner) Lemieux, he lived in Dartmouth most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
Mr. Lemieux was formerly employed by Kerr Mill Bargain Center in Fall River until his retirement in 1990.
He was a graduate of Dartmouth High School, class of 1939.
Mr. Lemieux served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a first class signalman petty officer. He was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 4 bronze stars, the American Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star, the Amphibious Force Insignia, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II victory Medal. He was a member of the US LST Association and the Amphibious Veterans of Massachusetts.
Survivors include a son, Bruce M. Lemieux and his wife Patricia T. of Mattapoisett; a daughter, Judith L. Balestracci and her husband Dante N. of New Bedford; a sister, Muriel Natho of New Bedford; 5 grandchildren, Zachary M. Lemieux, Dante G. Balestracci, Mark L. Balestracci , Thomas H. Balestracci and Meghan K. Morris; 4 nephews.
He was the brother of the late Doris Lemieux Buchholz.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Saturday, May 30th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday, May 29th 4-7 PM.
