Obituary

Joseph P. Sullivan, 88, of Plymouth, died on Monday May 25 after an illness. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ethel M. (Prebensen) Sullivan; 4 children Joseph P. Sullivan Jr. and his wife Theresa of Pocasset, Janet and her husband John Burke of Whitinsville, Charles G. and his wife Lisa Burke of Pocasset, and Mary Ethel and her husband Neil Cahalane of Hanover; 11 grandchildren Joseph P. Sullivan III, Matthew and his wife Gretchen Sullivan, David Burke, Alison and husband Craig Raposa, Megan and husband Phil Hudzikiewicz, Connor Sullivan, Kaleigh Sullivan, Erin Sullivan, Kate Cahalane, Jack Cahalane, and Seamus Cahalane; 4 great grandchildren Ronan Sullivan, Katrina Sullivan, Seamus Sullivan and Colin Hudzikiewicz; a sister Mary McNeill of Brighton; a sister-in-law Lila Sullivan; and many loving nephews and nieces. He was brother of the late Peg Power, Betty McGrath, Barbara Kelley, Jean Scott, Edward Sullivan, George Sullivan, and Charles Sullivan. Born in Cambridge on March 17, 1921 he was the son of John J. and Margaret (Doona) Sullivan and lived at White Horse Beach for 20 years. Previously he lived in Cambridge. Mr. Sullivan was a Crew Chief in the Painting Department for Harvard University for 37 years. He also worked at the Watertown Arsenal for several years. He was a graduate of Rindge Technical School and attended Wentworth Institute of Technology. He was a U.S Army WWII veteran serving in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theaters. He was a member of the VFW in Cambridge, and the Knights of Columbus in Cambridge, Brighton, and Manomet. He enjoyed watching sports, swimming, dancing with his wife Ethel and just being with family. He was artistic and loved to sketch. He enjoyed vacationing in Bermuda and wintering in Marco Island, FL at his beloved nephew's home, Dr. Michael Sullivan and wife Debby. His family thanks the Milford VNA, Salmon Hospice and the Beaumont Nursing Home staff and Peace Team for their outstanding care and support. Joe was a member of St. Bonaventure's Chuch. His funeral will be held on Thursday, May 28th at 11 o'clock at St. Bonaventure's Church followed by burial at the Mass. National Cemetery in Bourne at 1 o'clock. Calling hours from 8:30 to 10:30 am prior to the mass.
