Frank E. Souza, 90, of Mattapoisett died May 27, 2009 at Sippican Healthcare Center.
He was the husband of Ruth J. (Dvorak) Souza and the late Herminia (Falcao) Souza and Eleanor (Coggeshall) Souza.
Mr. Souza was born in New Bedford, the son of the late Frank E. Souza and Sarah (Leary) Longworth Souza. He grew up in New Bedford, graduating from New Bedford High School and later attending New Bedford textile School (now U Mass Dartmouth).
While employed at Goodyear making barrage balloons to be shipped to England, he was called to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. On being discharged from the service he worked for the Wamsutta Mills as the assistant purchasing agent. When Wamsutta moved away, he then was employed at the Continental Screw in the sales department. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 24 years of service in Tiverton, RI which was his last residence before moving to Mattapoisett in 1995.
He was a member of the Mattapoisett Congregational Church and a 50 year member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch #57 and a former member of the Acoaxet Club in Westport, Dartmouth Indoor Tennis Club, Amicable Congregational Church in Tiverton and the Community Chorus in Tiverton.
He enjoyed playing golf, tennis, singing in the church choir and community chorus, bowling, traveling, square dancing and enjoying the many boat trips to Cuttyhunk and Falmouth with his son Paul.
Survivors include his wife Ruth; two sons, Paul Souza and his wife Mary Lou Schuler of Mattapoisett and Robert Souza and his wife Susan of St. Louis, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Paul, Jr., Lori, Gabriella and Abraham; two nieces, Karen Kondi and Carol Silva and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Bernice Kondi.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 10 AM in the Mattapoisett Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Tiverton. Visiting hours are omitted. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett.
