Retired Lawrence Patrolman Dennis M. Murphy, 73, a resident of Salem, NH., formerly of Lawrence, MA., passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
Born in the Tower Hill section of Lawrence, Dennis was a graduate of both St. Augustine's Grammar School and Central Catholic High School in Lawrence. Dennis was a Lawrence Police Officer for 47 years retiring in October of 2000. He had also worked with the Lawrence Fire Department, as well as the Electric Company as a Lineman. Dennis had served in the United States Naval Reserve. He enjoyed watching sports on television as well as the company of his children and grandchildren.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 24 years: Marie D. (LeBlanc) Murphy, sons: Anthony Teal of Salem, NH, and Dennis M. Murphy, Jr., of Florida, daughters: Maryellen Doyle and her husband Kenny Doyle of Salem, NH, and Maureen Bean and her husband Roy Bean of Methuen, MA., he was also father of the late Shaun Murphy. Dennis is also survived by sons: Stephen Murphy and his wife Sara Murphy of Massachusetts and Terry Murphy and his wife Sharon Murphy also of Massachusetts. Daughter: Hannah Jones and her husband Byron Jones of Kentucky, as well as 21 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was also great grandfather to the late Wyatt. Dennis is survived by Stepchildren: Lisa Bourgeois of Florida, Quentin Teal of Manchester, NH, Jason Cameron of Lawrence, MA., and Jessica Gould of Somersworth, NH. He was also stepfather to the late John Laurence Teal. He is survived by a sister: Adrienne Markham of Maine as well as a nephew: Thomas Markham, III and his wife Diane Markham of Wakefield, MA.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Monica's Church in Methuen, MA. Cremation will follow at the Linwood Crematory in Haverhill, MA.
