Edith M. (Chase) Snell, 91, of Tiverton, RI passed away Monday, May 25, 2009 at St. Clare Home in Newport, RI. Born in Little Compton, RI, February 15, 1918, daughter of the late Andrew R. and Laura C. (Borden) Chase, she was a lifelong resident of the Little Compton / Tiverton area.
As a young housewife, she was an avid community volunteer for many local organizations; a UCC Sunday School teacher; member of the Ladies Aid Society, Little Compton Village Improvement Society; Little Compton Grange, and president of the J.F. Wilbur PTA. Presently she was a member of the Little Compton Social Rebekah Lodge, the United Congregational Church, the Little Compton Senior Citizens and an Honorary Lifetime Little Compton Community Center member. Ms. Snell worked for many years at the former Union Hospital in Fall River and also the Well Baby Clinic in Little Compton.
She is survived by her children: Richard D. Snell and his wife Elizabeth of FL, Bradley C. Snell of Little Compton, Ronald A. Snell of Tiverton, Judith D. West and her husband Samuel of Little Compton and Laura Walker and her husband Elmer Cornwell of Little Compton; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
