Silvino Garcia, 82, of Dartmouth died Tuesday May 26, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Maria Isabel (Sousa) Garcia; they had been married for 63 years.
Born in Faial, Azores, the son of the late Mateus and Laura (DosAnjos) Garcia, he moved to New Bedford in 1968, and had lived in Dartmouth for the past few years.
Mr. Garcia was the President of Mansil, Inc. in Tiverton, RI until his retirement.
He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Our Lady of Angels Band, the Clube Uniao Faialense, and the Holy Name Society of his parish.
Survivors include his wife; six children, Fernando Garcia and his wife Alda, Connie Sousa Garcia, Teresa Gomes, and Auzenda Brasidio, all of New Bedford, Carlos Garcia of Dartmouth, and Maria Fernanda Brasidio and her husband Carlos of Fairhaven; a brother, Valentino Garcia of Faial; a sister, Gabriella DaSilva of San Jose, CA; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
