Dorothy Buffum, 90, of Derry, NH, died Monday, May 25, 2009 in the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry. Mrs. Buffum was born in Derry on October 23, 1918, a daughter of the late Ferdinand and Olive (Nadeau) Levesque, and was a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Manchester, NH where she was her class Salutatorian. Mrs. Buffum was employed as the Derry Tax Collector from 1960 - 1981. She was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry where she was a member of the Tabernacle Society.
She is survived by three sons, David Buffum and his wife Charlene of Derry, Neil Buffum and his wife Louise of Bennington, NH, and John Buffum and his wife Cheryl of Rochester, NH; four grandchildren, Jeff Buffum of Goffstown, NH, Jodi Cofer of Poway, CA, Judy Shanteler of Salem, NH, and Kathy Zecchini of E. Kingston, NH; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her niece Jacqueline Powers whom lived with and cared for her for many years. She was predeceased by her husband Neil Buffum in 1970, and her brother George Levesque.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday, May 27th from 3 - 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Thursday at 9:30am in St. Marks Church, One South Rd., Londonderry, NH. The burial followed in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Manchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Derry Humane Society, P.O. Box 142, East Derry, NH 03041.
