Obituary

FALL RIVER - Raymond J. Rosa, 84, of Fall River passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Sarah Brayton Nursing Home following a period of declining health. He was born in Fall River, residing there for his entire life. He was the son of the late Manuel and Lena (Ratte) Rosa. He was the husband of Irondine (Silvia) Rosa; they were married for over 60 years.
He was formerly employed as a District Chief for the Fall River Fire Department, and was a firefighter for 31 years. He was a senior Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve, and also worked as a manager for the Fall River Florist Supply. He served in World War II and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fall River. He devoted his whole life to providing for and taking care of his family. He was a man of integrity and greatly loved by all who knew him.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Linda Bayliss and her husband Michael of Somerset; a son, Gary A. Rosa and his wife Janice of Fairhaven; and a sister, Delores Oliver and her husband Ed of Florida. He leaves five grandchildren, Michael Rosa, Allyson Bocchieri, Sarah Bayliss, Garret and Kimberly Rosa and two great-grandchildren, Olivia Katherine and Alexander Raymond Bocchieri. He was the father of the late Rev. Raymond J. Rosa, brother of the late Manuel Rosa, William Rosa, David Rosa, and Helen Cummings.
The family of Raymond would like to convey many thanks to the Sarah Brayton Nursing Home “Highland Unit” staff for their kindness and gentle care.
His funeral and burial were private in accordance with his wishes. In his memory, say a prayer for every person who puts on a firefighters uniform who may have to sacrifice his or her life in the line of duty.
