Obituary

CHELMSFORD — Mary Elizabeth (Sullivan) Morrison, 83, a resident of Chelmsford, and former South Lawrence resident, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009 at the Prescott House in North Andover. The wife of the late Augustine (Gus) D. Morrison whom she was married to for 48 years before his passing in 1998.

Born in Lawrence on July 17, 1925, daughter of Irish immigrants, the late Denis J. and Elizabeth (Murphy) Sullivan. She attended St. Patrick's Grammar School and graduated from St. Patrick Girls High School in South Lawrence and attended McIntosh Business School. She worked at Andover Savings Bank in Andover until her six children were born. She resumed working in 1968 at the Lawrence Eagle Tribune in the advertising department until her retirement in 1990. A past communicant of St. Patrick's Church until she relocated to Byfield in 1976 and attended St. Mary's Church in Rowley. In 2000 she relocated to her daughters home in Chelmsford, attending St. Mary's Church. A devout Catholic she was a faithful and supported all three parishes.

She loved to sew and knit, especially knitting Irish sweaters for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, the Maine coast and watching WGBH and Catholic TV.

She is survived by her five children, Joan D. Morrison, with whom she lived in Chelmsford, four sons, Brian A. and wife Susan (Brown) of Bronxville, N.Y. and Centerville, Kevin M. and his wife Sharon (Hastings) of Portsmouth, R.I., Mark and his wife Mary Bligh (Quigley) of Menands, N.Y. and Brendan and his wife Susan (Cunningham) of Franklin; one brother, Paul D. Sullivan of Hampton, N.H. and sister-in-law, Darcy Sullivan and her two children, Denis and Elizabeth of Brasilia, Brazil; grandchildren, Geoffrey N. and his wife Mariah F. (Almond) Gauthier of Houston and Washington, Mary E. Gauthier of Dever, Lauren M. Gauthier of Burlington, Vt., Timothy D. and wife Danielle (Harvey) Morrison of Phildaelphia, Lt. Colin J. Morrison of San Diego, Nolan B. Morrison of Washington, Christopher R. Morrison of Jersey City, N.J., Daniel F. Morrison of College Park, Md., Kaitrin E. Morrison of Portsmouth, R.I., Mark A., John M., and Anne B. Morrison of Menands, N.Y. and Meghan E., Shannon M., and J. Patrick Morrison all of Franklin.

Mrs. Morrison was predeceased by her son, Paul J. Morrison and her brothers, Rev. Seraphin (John) Sullivan, O.F.M. and Daniel Sullivan.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA 01844. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in North Andover.
