TEWKSBURY: Lewis E. "Buddy" Small, III, age 62, a lifelong Tewksbury resident, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at home with his family by his side, following a lengthy illness.
He was the husband of Theresa A. (Stanley) Small, with whom he celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on March 8th.
Born in Lowell on June 22, 1946, he was the son of the late Lewis E. Small, Jr. and the late Zita A. (Mahoney) Small.
Buddy attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School in 1964. Following graduation, he served during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army. Buddy was awarded several decorations for his military service including the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal .
Prior to his retirement in 2003, he was employed as a manager by the DSM Neorisins Company of Wilmington, where he worked for 20 years.
Buddy was an avid salt water fisherman and especially enjoyed fishing for bluefish and striped bass.
In addition to his wife Theresa, he is survived by one son, Matthew Lewis Small of Tewksbury; one daughter, Alison T. Hancock and her husband Shawn of Tewksbury; two grandchildren, Hannah C. and Brennan S. Hancock; one sister, Marilyn Sullivan and her husband Thomas F. Sullivan, Jr. of Tewksbury; also many cousins, nieces and nephews.
At his request services are private. Donations in his memory may be made to the Cancer Center at Lowell General Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, Tewksbury.
