In Taunton, MA. Chester T. died at the age of 88 in Wedgemere Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Chester leaves his wife Kathleen L. (Wood) Speed of Taunton. Chester was born in Neely, Misissipi to his late parents Hardy Jackson & Bessie Lee Speed. He has lived in Taunton the last nine years and is formerly of Stoughton. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy and retired from the Navy in 1959. He later worked as a electrical technician for the Raytheon Co. Chester was a member of the Stoughton VFW Post #1645, Elks, American Legion, D.A.V. Post #31 in Marshfield and the Stoughton Fish & Game. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling especially wintering in FL. Chester leaves his children Helen Dukeshire of Medford, MA., John Speed of Byfield, MA., Kathleen Hersey of Phoenix, Arizona, Stephen Speed pf Patterson, CA. and his stepchildren Donna L. Nolan of Stoughton and Mariea Totino of Stoughton and the late Harold “Marty” Fugate. His seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A funeral home service will be celebrated on Thursday, May 28th at 11am. Funeral home visiting hours to which relatives and friends are invited are on Weds. from 4-7pm.
