Methuen, MA- William F. McDonough, Jr, 92, of Methuen died May 22nd at the Oxford Nursing Home, Haverhill, after a long illness.
Son of William F. Sr. and Mary Josephine (McAuliffe) McDonough, he was born January 12, 1917 in Lawrence, educated at St. Mary's Grammar School, and St. John's Preparatory School, William graduated from Tufts College with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Prior to World War II he worked as a civilian electrical engineer for the U.S. Government in the Panama Canal Zone. After the war started, he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves, And was called to active duty where he served as a 1st Lieutenantin the South Pacific with the Marine artillery of the 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.
After World War II he returned to Lawrence and joined the family business;
Standard Coat, Apron & Towel Supply Co, which he ran and operated until his retirement in 1981.Business interests included the Lawrence Rotary Club (Past President).
He enjoyed wood crafting, his ham radio and spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 61 years Olga (Andruchow), two sons William F. III and Thomas and his wife Donna of Methuen, daughter Katherine Ditcher and her husband Mark of New York City, four grandchildren: William R. of New Hampshire and Timothy and Erin of Florida, and Michael of Methuen, as well as four great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a large number of nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: At the families request there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, May 27, at 9 AM at St. Monica's Catholic Church in Methuen followed by burial in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence St. in Methuen.
