THOMPSON, CT - Warner Duane Belt , 83 years old, of Thompson and Nicholls GA. Dr. Belt passed away on Thursday May 21, 2009, at home with his family. He was the loving husband of Dorthea Rasneor Belt for 59 years. He leaves his children Judith Belt Dedinsky and her husband Joe Dedinsky of Chelmsford; Stephen Warner Belt and his wife Pauline Ward Belt of Cortland, NY; Barbara Belt and her husband Jim Bonnette of Thompson, CT; and David Duane Belt and his wife Phyllis Morgan Belt of Nicholls, GA. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren Jason Belt, Jennifer Andrews, Joshua Belt, James Bonnette, Matthew Dedinsky, and Caleb Belt; his cherished great-grand children Austin Andrews, Natasha Belt, Alexis Andrews and Julian Belt; and dear family friend Mandi Zdanis.
Born in Bellaire Ohio, Dr. Belt received a B.S. in Biology from Bethany College, West Virginia, M.Sc. and PhD of Anatomy from Ohio State University and Post Doctorate in Electron Microscopy from UCLA.
He proudly served his country during WWII in the US Navy.
Dr. Belt was a retired Professor of Anatomy from Tufts University Medical School, and previous to that at the Medical College of Virginia and Emory University.
He enjoyed a lifelong hobby of photography and jewelry making. He was past member of the Metal Workers Guild, Lexington Arts and Crafts Society and he studied at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be private. There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street.
