Gordon Douglas Goodemote, 69, of Tifton died Friday, May 22, 2009, comfortably in his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2009, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Ed Goggans will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Ryan McDaniel, Jay Nelson, Jeremy Nelson, Keven Napier, Jeff Gilmer and Tyler Wedgeworth will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of DAV Chapter 38 in Tifton. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 23, 2009, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Goodemote was born on December 15, 1939 in Buffalo, New York and was the son of Wayne Dwight Goodemote and Elma Armstrong Goodemote, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Joni-Ellen Goodemote. He was a general contractor and a member of Worldwide Church of God. He was also a member of the DAV Chapter 38 in Tifton and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He had lived in Tift County since the summer of 1973.
Gordon was a wonderful father, who loved his family deeply. He will remain in the hearts of all who loved him. He was fun, loving and he lived life to the fullest.
Mr. Goodemote is survived by the mother of his children, Vera L. Meers Goodemote of Tifton; five daughters, Jessica McDaniel of Tifton, Mary Dunn of Tifton, Cathryn Long of Villa Rica, Erin Goodemote of Tifton and Nellie Goodemote of Rome; two sisters, Janice Rhode of California and Joyce Imperatori of Florida; six grandsons, Ryan McDaniel, Jay Nelson, Jeremy Nelson, Jared Long, Jacob Gilmer and Benjamin Long; and one granddaughter, Perrin Price.
