John J. Peckham, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Tuesday May 18, 2009 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a long illness. He was 75 years old.
John was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools. John did building maintenance work in the Boston area for several years. He worked for the City of Boston Commission for Elderly Affairs as a Senior Companion for several years and has also been a longtime volunteer for the Boston Senior Care Service. He has been a most consciencious worker among Boston's elderly for many years.
John is the beloved son of the late John and Mary (Kenney) Peckham. He is the brother of the late Gerard Peckham and Pauline Coble. He is the beloved brother-in-law of Harvey and Penny Coble of Florida. He is the dear friend of the Gunning family, Ginger Leonard, Pat DeCain and Jan Mastrocola all of Charlestown.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours for John on Friday morning May 23, 2009 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
