Obituary

In Taunton, May 19, 2009 Harold F. “Sporty” husband of the late Lillian (Lemieux) Callahan, died suddenly at his home at Ipswich Drive in Taunton at the age of 88. Born in Taunton, Harold was the son of the late John and Louise (Smith) Callahan. He was educated at St. Mary’s Grammar School and Coyle High School. Harold was a veteran of WWII, he served with the 83rd Infantry division in 5 major engagements, landing on Omaha Beach in Normandy and in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium where he received a bronze star. In the late 1950s Harold was the manager for Raynham Liquor Mart and then went on to work at TMLP as an office manager for 22 years until his retirement. He was a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Church in Taunton. Harold loved his animals, sports, especially baseball, football and the going to the dog track. He was the brother of the late Eileen (Callahan) Conaty. He is survived by two brother-in-laws Philip Lemieux of Taunton, William Lemieux of Sandwich and the late Edward Lemieux. One sister-in-law Julie (Lemieux) Walsh of Taunton. Uncle of Carol DeBenedetti of Taunton, Joan Adamczyk of Taunton, Patricia Farrands of East Taunton, Robert Conaty of Arlington, Timothy Walsh of Lakeville, Daniel Walsh of Taunton, Julie Wyman of Bridgewater, Mary Dunderdale of Taunton, Philip Lemieux of Taunton, Michael Lemieux of Sandwich, Erin Lemieux of Sandwich and great and great great uncle of several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street in Taunton Saturday, May 23rd at 9 am. Funeral Mass at St. Jude the Apostle Church in Taunton at 10 am. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4-7 pm. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery in Taunton. Donations in Harold’s memory may be made to Taunton Animal Shelter, 821 West Water Street, Taunton, Ma, 02780.
