Obituary

Michael G. “Mike” Bombas, 86 years, of Brockton, died May 18, 2009 at his home after suffering several strokes over the past year. He was the husband for 35 years of Elizabeth (MacDonald) (Montgomery) Bombas; stepfather of the late Edwin Montgomery, Jr., and son of the late Kula (Barthako) Bombas and the Reverend George Bombas.

Mike was born in Providence, RI and enlisted in the Navy in 1942 during World War II and was stationed at the Headquarters Dispensary in Washington, DC as a Pharmacist Mate and also in Hawaii at the Dispensary. After the War, he graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music with a voice major as an alto tenor and sang in various clubs around Boston. In 1974 he moved to Brockton from Newton after marrying Elizabeth. They started a successful Constable Service called A-1 Constable Service in Brockton and the surrounding towns. He was an avid ballroom dancer and while visiting his sister in Miami in 1968 he won a dance contest and was named the “Miami Beach all round ballroom dance champion”. Mike is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Thursday 4-7pm with a prayer service at 6:30pm. A private family burial will be held Friday at Union Cemetery in Holbrook.
